artist’s statement
I am a writer/director and ICVFX stage operator for stories that bend and pierce reality creatively and technically. I am obsessed with science and climate fiction, alien worlds (including our own!), anthropology, postmodernism, transhumanism, and XR technology, and gravitate toward stories that rewrite existing narratives. I want to make things that redefine the use cases for our wildest dreams, accessing both modern and ancient mindsets through story, color, sound, and fury.
I associate my past with Spielbergian nostalgia and the kind of longing that comes with growing up in the frigid American Northeast. I chase collaborative knowing, truth, and reality in everything I do and learn. I love stories that take twists and turns, landing viewers in a web of revelation and I strive to create that sensation in my own work. I am driven by characters and stories that overcome tremendous odds and impossible circumstances, ranging from acceptance of the terrible to triumph over adversity, generating hope and energy for all in the future.
As a filmmaker I gravitate toward cinematography that stays with the character through chaos and intense motion. As a 3D environment and mixed reality artist I seek to create the kind of abstract visuals, colors, lighting, and musical visual rhythm that give unspeakable meaning and life to ideas, worlds, and artifacts just out of reach of comprehension through physics engines, VFX software, and generative AI tools. My favorite aesthetics are terra futura, biophilic brutalism, synthwave, and cyberpunk and my subsequent journeys include holography, robotics and autonomous systems. In achieving final pixel, I enjoy alternating deliberate pacing with satisfying motion.
I love oppositions and contrasts, the myth of balance, and the constancy of chaos and rhythm that permeates every moment. I believe that we live in a constant unfolding of a universe that defies explanation until the very instant we cease creating it. I work to understand, and if that journey is infinite, then so is understanding, and so are we.
